It’s been said that “you don’t change Bitcoin, Bitcoin changes you.” This happens in more ways than one, but it typically starts with how you think about money.
Consider the very first choice you make with fiat currency. When you earn fiat, you allocate those funds almost immediately, because if you don’t, its value is guaranteed to depreciate. You tend to adopt the mindset of either spending it quickly for some instant gratification, or investing it, which includes taking on unwanted risk in the hopes of preserving your purchasing power.
When you think in terms of fiat, your money – and by extension your mind – is always on a hamster wheel. Whether chasing yield or trading for gains, far too many resources are expended over-analyzing asset prices based on ever-changing factors while navigating a minefield of risks. The process is a constant source of anxiety and exhaustion because your money never can reach a reliable resting place.
With Bitcoin as your benchmark however, there is no urgency to exchange it for consumer goods, stocks, bonds, real estate, gold, or anything else. It is secure, straightforward, and risk minimized. Moreover, its value consistently appreciates over time, so there’s no reason to rotate into other assets. You can simply save in Bitcoin and chill.
As a network, Bitcoin operates independent of any trusted third party. It is driven by the value propositions of being absolutely scarce sound money, censorship-resistant, and permissionless—all of which have stood up to scrutiny and opposition time and again. Accordingly, saving in Bitcoin can bring peace of mind, and therein lies the rub.
In fiat, every investment is burdened by the need for an exit strategy, whereas in Bitcoin, every coin securely stored rests easy in perennial sanctuary. The clarity that results from this change in mindset inevitably influences other thought processes, as many principles of Bitcoin apply elsewhere. Topics like health, education, relationships, spirituality, security, and more, all come into greater focus when Bitcoin empowers you to take personal responsibility for your wealth, well-being, and future, while freeing up capacity for critical thinking.
